friendship
friendship is a big part of anyone's life (i almost typed 'key component'. stupid tok essay. making me think so complex). i don't know any single person that can survive without having at least a few friends, regardless of gender. friends are there for you when you need them, much like a family, and they go through much of what you're going through, at the same time, so they can empathise much better than many parents can (despite the countless lectures and pep talks by various adults). for us guys, i don't see many that have a problem with whether their friends are male or female, but i find, and so do others, that other guys tend to be more...useful... shall we say, because there are many things you can do with a group of guys than with the same number of the fairer sex, and even with them in the same group it sometimes tends to be a bit more awkward than if it was an all male gathering. girls do have their roles, and i won't discount it. so most people would have a judicious number of friends from either side, without qualms
but many a time, gender does play a significant role, and it can lead a person to change a lot, even someone that doesn't seem like the type of person to be affected by such...affectations (is that a word?)....and it seems that girls tend to have a stronger effect on the guys than vice versa.
okay i don't know why i'm thinking of this right now. KFC pwnz you
