syf gwh

that's two 7-0 wins in a row. another one and we can say we hit jackpot =)

anyway. so both sections of the chamber orchestra got gold with honours. maybe it was expected. maybe it was simply hoped for. but i think, and i'm sure i speak for many in the orch, that we've been through so many musical experiences that the syf seems a very minor, and maybe even inconsequential, thing, compared to what we've done before, and what we're going to do. take for example our march concert, in that very same conference hall that hosted the syf. again i'm sure many feel the same way, when i say that syf pales in comparison to the thrill of playing the New World Symphony, or even Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance. syf is 8 minutes that fades away in almost no time at all. Dvorak is 40 minutes of sheer enjoyment that stays with you for life.

also, in all honesty, mistakes are much more easily forgiven when playing Dvorak than playing Respighi. There is no award for playing Dvorak perfectly. the sense of achievement is fulfilled when the audience is enthralled by the performance, and let it be a big audience.

syf is a waste of time. you want a festival, make it a proper festival. syf is nothing like a festival, in any sense of the word
